Managed backend
You do the creative. We do the IT.
The database, the services and the API are ours to run, patch, back up and defend. The brand, the design and the customer experience are yours.
Most businesses that build software discover the same thing about six weeks in: the interesting part was maybe a fifth of the work. The rest is database backups, permission rules, security patches, payment edge cases, and the slow realization that somebody now has to be woken up when it breaks.
None of that is what makes your business distinctive. Your customers have never once chosen you because of how your backups are configured. So hand that half over, and spend your attention on the half that actually wins you work.
Who does what
Ours
- The database — running, backed up, and recoverable.
- Keeping data belonging to different organizations separated from each other.
- Authentication, sessions, permissions and the audit trail.
- The API and its contract, including never breaking one you already depend on.
- Security patching, dependency updates and vulnerability response.
- Uptime, capacity and the 2am problems.
- Payment plumbing, real double-entry books, and the records a tax authority expects.
- New capability, arriving as releases you choose when to take.
Yours
- Your brand, your words, your design.
- What your customers experience and how the workflow feels.
- Your pricing, your catalog, your terms of business.
- Which capabilities you switch on and what you call them.
- Your own Stripe account, and the money that settles into it.
- When to take an upgrade.
What managed does not mean
Every managed service is a boundary, and the ones that go badly are the ones where nobody said where the boundary was. So, plainly:
Your own front-end code, once you customize it
Everything you write in your own repository is yours to maintain. We keep the framework beneath it working and upgradeable — but if you build a custom page, that page is your code.
The accounts you connect
Your Stripe, your domain, your sending identity. We wire them up and keep them working; the relationships and the compliance obligations sit with you, because they are yours.
What you put in it
We keep your customer data safe, separated and recoverable. What you collect, why, and how you honour consent is a decision only your business can make.
Commission a service that does not exist yet
Sometimes a business needs the backend to do something nobody has built — a calculation only your industry cares about, a way of working that is genuinely yours, an integration with a system your trade runs on. Tell us what it is and we will scope it as a custom service on your platform.
The part worth knowing: where a commissioned capability turns out to be broadly useful, it can become part of the base that every release carries. That means the thing you paid to have built keeps being maintained and improved instead of becoming the one-off nobody dares touch after the developer who wrote it moves on — which is the usual fate of custom work.
